I have a DS but not a DS lite so I'm going to compare them. The DS lite is the updated version of the DS but is light weight and can break easily if dropped. The DS has iron so it is heavier but is more durable. If you look at the pictures they look a little different. The stylus on the lite is bigger but I prefer the smaller stylus. So my advice to you would be get the standard DS.
